I left my job as a Nursery Manager in December 2014, as I wanted a change in career. I spoke to Linda Hobbs about training as an Assessor for Childcare, as I had 27 years’ experience within the education profession, ranging from nursery to Primary education. I already held a BA Honours Degree in Early Years Education, but wanted to continue my professional development.
I attended training sessions, as well as putting a portfolio of evidence together, for my Certificate in Assessing Vocational Qualification. I also travelled around with Linda to see learners, which gave me the opportunity to see the way in which the job role was to be carried out, and learn from a very experienced assessor.
It wasn’t long before I became a competent Assessor and gained my Assessor qualification, where I was given learners working towards Early Years, Play work & Teaching Assistant qualifications.
At this time, I also wanted to develop my teaching practice, as opportunities to deliver some training was something I could possibly do alongside my assessing role. I enrolled to complete a Level 4 qualification in Education & Training. I attended Plymouth Training Centre, where I had a very supportive teacher. The qualification was a mixture of classroom based learning, work based and completing set assignments. I thoroughly enjoyed this qualification and the learning experience it provided.
Since then I continued working as an Assessor, only recently leaving for a full time position elsewhere. Plymouth Training is a professional training provider, who have supported & encouraged me to develop professionally, which only enhances the professionalism and knowledge that I am able to pass onto my learners.
Thank you Linda & all the team at Plymouth Training.
"Without Plymouth Training and Consultancy I wouldnt be in my dream job as a Youth Worker"
I studied an apprenticeship in youth and community work from 2014 - 2016 with plymouth training and consultancy. The support i recieved to complete the course was phenominal, I have dyslexia so some of the coursework was challenging for me but the assesors and staff went above and beyond to make sure i found a route that suited me. Since completing i have sucessfully ran a pilot project for young people in association with the police and i am about to start working across the south west supporting young people leaving the care system. This is all thanks to the training i recieved at plymouth training and consultancy.
“Plymouth City Council has been working with (Plymouth Training and Consultancy) for the last 4 years to deliver Youth Work apprenticeships. It’s an absolute joy to be working with such a dedicated training provider who specialises in supporting the development of young people within our youth work sector. The feedback from our apprentices reflects on the successful outcomes of all our apprenticeships, with every one of them achieving success and progressing onto employment or further education upon completion. The assessors/tutors always go the extra mile and treat every apprentice as an individual happily adjusting both delivery and support to ensure the best possible results are achieved in line with learners needs. Thank you for helping us upskills our workforce and ensuring we have the right skills in the right place to meet both current and future needs”. Ken Holder (Talent Advisor, Plymouth City Council)
The Zone (a Support and Information Service for 13 – 25 year olds) started to work with (Plymouth Training and Consultancy Ltd ) in Sept 2014 to deliver four Youth Work apprenticeships, within a Financial Confidence Programme funded by the Big Lottery
It has been too been a pleasure to work alongside dedicated training provider who specialises in supporting the apprentices through Level 2 & Level 3 Youth Work enabling the development of young people within the youth work sector.
Our apprentices completed both level 2 & 3 with successful outcomes, three of our apprenticeships, into full time employment. Two of which are still within the project.
I would just like to say that the time and effort that was dedicated to the apprentices was about meeting their needs and learning styles which has enabled them to develop as competence professional within the sector of Children, Young People, Adults and Families.
As a result of such exceptional training & assessing we have continued to work with Plymouth Training & Consultancy, by taking the offer of work based apprenticeships
in Leadership & Management(ILM)
Many thanks for supporting our work within the Voluntary Sector, enabling this sector to upskill our professional workforce in an every changing landscape of funding. You have enabled us to create learning opportunities that would have been out of our reach if funding was required.
